Privacy Policy
This page is maintained by Scani to explain what information we collect, why we do it and what rights you have. Scani is a guidance tool for FODMAP content — not a healthcare provider or medical service.
1. Who is responsible?
The Scani service is operated by Richard Wengelin. Questions about privacy, rights or deletion can be sent to Wengelinrichard@gmail.com.
2. What information do we collect?
We only collect information needed for the app to work:
- Account details: email address and password for sign-in (managed by Lovable Cloud / Supabase Auth).
- Scans: images you take or upload, and text you enter, to provide a FODMAP assessment.
- Diary notes: dish, reaction (emoji), optional note and time of logging.
- Device information: a random device ID per browser/device used to enforce the limit of three signed-in devices at the same time.
- Technical data: browser type, language setting and IP address may be logged by our hosting provider in connection with authentication and database requests.
3. How do we use the information?
- To identify dishes and provide guidance on FODMAP content.
- To save your scan and diary history for you.
- To manage your session, device limit and premium status.
- To improve the app's stability and user experience.
We never sell your data. We do not use your scan images or diary data to train general AI models.
4. How do we protect your data?
Your data is stored in Lovable Cloud (Supabase) with encryption at rest and in transit via HTTPS. Each user only sees their own scans and diary notes thanks to Row Level Security. Only you — and appointed administrators with specific permission — can access your data.
5. Sharing with third parties
To run the service we use the following subprocessors:
- Lovable Cloud / Supabase — hosting, database, authentication and file storage.
- Lovable AI Gateway (Gemini) — image and text analysis to identify dishes and assess FODMAP content.
We plan to add a payment provider for Scani Plus in the future. When that happens, this policy will be updated with current information.
6. Cookies and similar technology
We use cookies and local storage:
- Necessary: required for sign-in, session and basic functionality. These cannot be turned off.
- Analytics: helps us understand how the app is used. Optional — you can decline via the cookie banner.
- Marketing: used to measure and improve marketing. Optional — you can decline via the cookie banner.
You can change your cookie choices at any time by clearing browser data for Scani and visiting the page again.
7. Storage and deletion
Your scans and diary notes are kept as long as you have an account. If you want to delete your account and all associated information, contact us at Wengelinrichard@gmail.com. We delete your data within a reasonable time after a verified request, except what the law may require us to keep.
8. Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we have about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Request deletion of your account and your data.
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Receive your data in a structured format.
Requests can be sent to Wengelinrichard@gmail.com. We respond as soon as we can, normally within 30 days.
9. Children and age limit
Scani is not intended for people under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has signed up, contact us and we will delete the account.
10. Updates to this policy
We may update this privacy policy when the service or legal requirements change. The latest version is always shown here with the update date.
Not medical advice
Scani provides guidance on FODMAP content based on general information. Results do not replace advice from a doctor, dietitian or other healthcare professional. If you have symptoms or are unsure, always contact a qualified healthcare provider.
